Instgram Inspiration Roundup

Tuesday, February 25, 2014

There are a lot of perks to frequenting locally owned businesses. One of my favorite things about stopping by a local business is getting to know the owner. I love knowing that the person behind the counter has a real stake in the establishment as well as the local economy.

Places like Pastiche take this a step further. Not only is the owner a local, but so are all the artists. There is something about knowing the person who created an item that is truly unique. Even if you can’t actually meet each artist face to face, many of them have an online presence that makes it easy to see behind the scenes of their creative processes.

Here are a few pictures of some of our creatives at work. Hopefully it will kick start some of your inspiration this week.

Girly Weekend Tutorial Round Up

Friday, February 21, 2014

It seems like the warm weather makes every one want to get out and DO something. Our weekend plans are intensely girly and include a princess party tomorrow afternoon and a sleep over tomorrow night. Warm weather also stirs up my creative juices so, I decided to test drive a couple DIYs for you all to try out.

I swung by the shop on Thursday for some last minute inspiration. I only had a few minutes but I found exactly what I needed up by the counter.

1
These super sweet and bright hair ties by the Otis and June line proved to be a great starting point. They are perfect as a birthday gift. Even if a little girl has short hair they can be worn as funky bracelets.  They can also be used at the sleep over when we do make overs making them all around perfect.

2
These bobby pins were inspired by this cute dress up ring tutorial. My favorite kind of craft is one that requires minimal shopping. I didn't have rings on hand so I decided to decorate bobby pins instead. I made some to coordinate with the hair ties to give the birthday girl. If the kids feel creative we can use this activity at the sleep over as well. The girls can pick out buttons from my stash and then play dress up while I do the gluing.

3
I wanted to add one more piece to the gift so I turned to Pinterest for inspiration. I spent a lot of time at work with my husband yesterday so I was looking for a portable project. This braided fabric jewelry tutorial was perfect. This is such a simple but stylish idea. It reminds me of a grown up friendship bracelet.  I contemplated making a necklace (and still might) but decided to cut the braid down into bangle bracelet sizes. I sewed the ends together to make a circle and viola a really easy gift. It's pretty enough for adults but I can use to keep little hands busy and teach the girls how to braid.

Hopefully the weather will hold and we can all get out and enjoy some sunshine this weekend. But, if the rain comes back at least you have a few ideas on how to pass the time.

Spring Fever

Tuesday, February 18, 2014

I am not sure about all of you, but after a weekend of being snowed in I have some pretty crazy spring fever! Spring may still be 5 weeks (31 Days!)  away, but there is nothing like being snowed into make me want to do some deep spring cleaning and break out some bright colors.

Here are a few things from the shop that speak spring to me.

1
There is nothing quite like a pop of bright color to open up a room. I can see a vase of pretty spring flowers sitting on top of this little table next to my writing chair.

2
More than anything else scents trigger the changing of seasons for me. It may not be warm outside yet, but at least I can make it smell like spring inside!

3
Spring is clearly taking it's time and won't be making an appearance any time soon. So, until then, I will be changing up the look of this winter's sweaters with some fun new statement pieces. The best part? They will still be in season when t-shirt season finally rolls around.

Other things inspiring me right now

I thoroughly intend to get a jump start on my spring cleaning and take care of some of these things this week.

I tend to use winter as an excuse to eat heavy foods, but I am really craving some fresh, energizing foods lately.

What is inspiring YOU this week? Share in the comments, we would love to hear from you.

Meet the Creative: Haley Pavao

Friday, February 14, 2014

The snow may make driving a bit precarious, but that doesn't mean  you can't "visit" us at Pastiche today! The best part? You don't even have to get out of your pajamas. So brew a cup of tea or coffee and get ready to meet our first feature creative.

Name: Haley Pavao
Brand: Pastiche at Main

Tell us about your creative background.
I have a bachelors in Fashion Merchandising & Interior Design from Liberty University.  I have been doing consultations for over 6 years now.  My specialties - home staging, creating cohesive color palettes, and re-purposing old things into new useful objects (i.e. wicker baskets or minnow traps into pendant lights, old headboard into an entry way organizing unit.) I love to use what my client has, but change a few things & see my client fall in love with their home all over again!

How did you end up where you are now?
I interned at James T. Davis Paint Center which resulted  in a retail/sales management job for 6 years.  I continued pursuing design through consultations with clients, realtors, and local vendor markets.  I fell in love with the creative community in Lynchburg & felt like there was a need locally to showcase this talent in a beautiful retail store that would be open year round.  That was the beginning of what we now know as "Pastiche at Main".

What is your favorite thing that you have created?
That is a tough one, because while opening the store there were a lot of unique projects I got to work on.  The one that tops them all would be the chandelier hanging in the middle of the store.  It was inspired from an old rim of a wheel and became a 5 tier chandelier with old encyclopedia pages on each tier.  There's some love/hate for that project, but overall I am super proud of what my husband & I accomplished.

Are you currently working on any new projects or learning any new techniques?
I am currently obsessed with Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint, & that is partly because I have used it for years but had never been taught how to properly mix and apply it.  Once I received proper training, I had an all new respect for the product line.  I am excited to train other DIYers in our Intro to Milk Paint workshops.

Where is your favorite place to create?
I love painting outdoors at home, but until the weather is warmer, my workshop here at the store will have to do!  There is nothing like a warm spring day with a breeze and sunshine - makes me want to grab a paint brush and drop cloth & paint something, anything!

What inspires you most?
Being surrounded by Gods creation, whether nature or creative friends!  I feel so blessed that I work alongside so many other creative people here at Pastiche at Main.

What is your creative soundtrack?
I love ALL music, but my favorite is some good indie mix on Songza.  I never know what song will come on & it allows me to focus on my project at hand instead of singing with every song, which you will find me doing in the car every time my butt hits the seat.

What do you love most about what you do?
There's so many ways to answer this question!  I enjoy getting to the shop & having no set schedule other than my own.  That can consist of paper work (not a fan), but can also involve meeting a client for breakfast, running out for a consultation, or working on something interesting in the back with another creative.  I love where God has me for now, and am excited to see what is in store for Pastiche at Main's future.

My overall hope is that Pastiche at Main would "Inspire Creative Living".
